“Harpreet gave the example of how Mughal rulers asked people to choose between ‘dharam’ (faith) and ‘zindagi’ (life), but Sikh Gurus, Sahibzadas and warriors chose dharam over zindagi. He said Sirsa had been coerced into joining BJP. Ranjit claimed that Harpreet had adopted a soft approach on Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) former acting president Manjinder Singh Sirsa joining BJP. ‘Can’t go soft on Sirsa’ Akal Takht former jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh on Tuesday said SGPC officiating jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh was setting a wrong example by quoting the history of Sikh Gurus to eulogize a politician who chose personal interest over community’s concern. On the other hand, SAD(B) spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was understood that Sirsa was no more in the party since he had already joined the BJP. He demanded that both the national as well as Delhi state presidents of SAD (B), Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harmeet Singh Kalka, should publicly clear their stand that how a person could be a leader of two parties. “It seems that the SAD(B) has kept a door open for the return of Sirsa, had there been any other person the party would have expelled him immediately,” quipped Inder Mohan. Inder Mohan further said that Sirsa had neither resigned from the SAD(B) nor he had been expelled from the party so far. Quoting rules, Mohan further said that DSGMC should immediately call the general house to accept the resignation of Sirsa in which only elected and co-opted members in the year 2017 could participate. “It will be illegal if Sirsa continued to remain acting president because a political leader cannot look after the affairs of a religious organisation,” he said. Sikh affairs expert Inder Mohan Singh said that after the resignation of Sirsa, a complicated situation has arisen in the DSGMC. Senior Akali leader and acting president of DSGMC Sirsa had resigned from the presidentship of DSGMC and joined the BJP on December 1. It set the tone for the rest of his career, as Crazy Mohan and his brother Balaji wrote and starred in a number of plays of similar tone and tenor, and always had their audience in splits.AMRITSAR: Questions are now being raised as to why the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has not convened its general house to accept the resignation of former acting president Manjinder Singh Sirsa and expel him from the party.
